WHAT'S INCLUDED:
HOW IT WORKS:
A ‘secret mission’ is read, and kids search the house looking for treasure hunt cards (along with actual candy canes if you'd like to add a bit of sugary fun to the adventure!). Every card has a code word to decipher. Once the code has been cracked, the final clue is revealed - leading kids to their ‘grand prize’! This ‘grand prize’ is your choice - it could be anything from Christmas candy, a bunch of candy canes to decorate the tree (and nibble on!), an early Christmas gift, or a Christmas elf, to money, a hand-written letter, event tickets or even decorations to put up around the house/yard.
THE SET UP:
Aside from the final prize (and candy canes, if you wish to hide one along with each clue), this scavenger hunt requires no props and no stress! Simply print out and hide the Christmas clues, place your prize at the end, and you’re all set to go.
SCAVENGER HUNT STORYLINE:
Sparkles the elf skipped through the snow with a bag full of candy canes, excited to deliver them to the North Pole tree. But when she got there, only a few were left. With a gasp, Sparkles spotted a little hole at the bottom of the bag. Oh no! She’d been leaving a trail of candy canes behind her, scattered all through the snow. How will the elves finish decorating the tree for the Christmas party without their much-loved treats?
Your Mission: Help Sparkles the elf track down the missing candy canes by following the trail she left in the snow. But beware—they’re scattered far and wide, and some playful forest creatures have hidden them with tricky challenges to test your wits! Can you solve their riddles and gather all of the candy canes in time to decorate the North Pole tree before the Christmas party begins?!
CLUE HIDING SPOTS:
This scavenger hunt requires clues to be hidden in the following places:
The final clue location is very ‘broad’ so that you can get creative with your ‘grand prize’ hiding spot. In this case, the pillowcase can be in the room of your choice, in a cupboard, or even set up under the Christmas tree like a 'Santa sack'!

- Window seat/chair/couch by the window
- In a bed
- Kitchen sink/drying rack
- Toy box/playroom/toy storage area
- Bookcase/bookshelf/book storage area
- TV/entertainment unit
- Front door/entryway
- Office/office supply storage area
- Coat closet/hall closet/bedroom closet
- Mail/mail box/mail bin
- FINAL CLUE: Inside a pillowcase
The final clue location is very ‘broad’ so that you can get creative with your ‘grand prize’ hiding spot. In this case, the pillowcase can be in the room of your choice, in a cupboard, or even set up under the Christmas tree like a 'Santa sack'!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Ages: 6 - 10 years of age (able to read)
- Gameplay: approximately 20 minutes (the harder your clues are hidden, the longer it will take!)
- Participants: this is designed to be a family bonding activity that reveals a special gift at the end. We personally recommend using this activity with 1-4 kids.
- Larger groups: It IS possible to play with larger groups, but requires more prep work. To do so, we suggest hiding MULTIPLE of each clue card in every location – so that one team doesn’t spoil the hiding spot for the rest. To play, split guests into groups of up to 4 players, and have them start the candy cane scavenger hunt at different times. By staggering the start times you will avoid the ‘leading’ team revealing the answers as they head to each location. You could also keep track of who completes the activity in the fastest time (if you wish to have an overall ‘winning team’)!
